Providing individual and couples counseling.
Kara Smith, LCSW offers in person and online appointments.
Length of sessions
Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length, but some clients may need a 75-80 minute session.
Frequency of sessions
Sessions are typically conducted weekly to begin, but can be more or less frequent.
Length of treatment
The length of treatment depends on the client's goals for therapy, the modality used, and the level of complexity. A single incident trauma using EMDR can take as little as 3 sessions. Therapy for a client who is suffering from complex trauma with a high degree of dissociation and with a goal of integration may take much longer.
Assessment
To determine the level of complexity, Kara will perform a thorough intake assessment and may use additional assessments as needed. Some of these assessments can be completed between sessions and some will require time in session to complete.
Additional assessment may include one or more of the following: Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Adverse Childhood Experiences Scale (ACES), Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES-II), Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID), Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5), Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), Somatiform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ), or other assessment(s) not listed here.
